Thrive Youth Dance Company

A place for young people to express themselves and belong

Thrive Youth Dance Company (TYDC) is the graduate company of Thrive Dance Academy; it is led by Cherie Brennan and supported by Grace Black.  Young people who have successfully completed the academy training programme are invited to continue their dance learning once a week at Farnham Maltings.

Being charitable TYDC relies on funding; the 2019/20 programme has received support from The Emma Campbell Trust and Active Surrey. This enables The Dance Movement to deliver dance classes all year round, provide performance opportunities for the company members at venues across the county of Surrey and provides bursaries so that TYDC members can access other high quality dance provision.  A huge thank you to our funders.

Why TYDC?

Thrive Youth Dance Company is made up of amazing young people (aged 14 - 21 years) who have graduated from the Thrive Dance Academy.  The members have not led or are not leading the most straightforward of lives which takes it toll on their mental health.

Through the Academy programme young people build resilience through taking on the challenge of completing the Academy's programme.  They are supported by unwavering staff members and get to experience what it is to succeed and feel included; something many of them do not regularly experience.

The Dance Movement recognises the importance of providing continued opportunities for the graduates of the Academy programme so that they can keep up their positive mindset and be challenged as and when they slip back into negative behavioural patterns.  Thrive Youth Dance Company was established in January 2019, following the first pilot phase of Thrive Dance Academy, as a place for the graduates to keep returning to once they have completed the academy programme.  For most it is a weekly respite, a place where they can go to be cared for, believed in, and have their positive identity reinforced.

TYDC costs £20k each year to deliver, if you are interested in donating towards this charitable programme please contact us.
