Dancers from Farnham Heath End School have had a successful first two terms working with The Dance Movement as a result of funding from Active Surrey’s Satellite Initiative. The year-long dance project, titled Dance Accord has seen young dancers working together to create a number of dances which were performed at Farnham Maltings on Friday 4th December as part of The Dance Movement’s community dance celebration Winter Move, in an interpretation of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
The aim of Dance Accord is to help establish a dance community at Farnham Heath End School. The year-long dance project aims to empower young people through creativity and keeping healthy and was set-up as a result of Head of PE Hayley Kemp contacting The Dance Movement via the sporting body, Active Surrey.
Programme Director, Rachel Palmer said, “I’m over-joyed with all that Dance Accord has accomplished this term. The dancer’s successful performance in December was as a direct result of the commitment each dancer put into the project. They have developed a real sense of team over the ten-weeks, which showed in their majestic portrayal of Aslan in our Winter Move production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
I am really looking forward to working with them this Summer term. As well as thier weekly Weds dance class we will be taking the dancers through their arts award which includes visiting William Cobbett Junior School to teach Year 2 children to create choreography. The dancers will unite in a performance as part of Farnham Blooming in July 2016.”
